Shopping For A Plasma TV Online

There are several companies, large and small, selling display products on the Internet.  With its vast reach and tremendous efficiency, the Internet allows merchants to sell products at greatly reduced prices than traditional retail stores.  Many online companies strive to win your confidence and business by offering superb customer service and very low prices.  However, there are some online retailers to watch out for. These companies practice unethical tactics and that attempt to confuse, coerce and even fraud unsuspecting consumers.

Things to Watch Out For:

Online Store Front Appearance:
The theory that an online store front can be created virtually overnight is true.  Software and Internet providers often allow individuals to create online storefronts using generic templates and simple 'point and click' programming.  This is terrific for a small company or individual looking to get started online.  However, in the world of high-ticket merchandise, such as plasma displays, an unprofessional web site, which looks like it was created in just a few hours, is a tip that the company may not be legitimate or they may not be in business for very long.

The questions to take into consideration are: 'am I buying from a legitimate company' and 'have they invested in their business'.

The look and professional appearance of the retailer's web site is a key indicator that the company might not be legitimate.  An e-commerce storefront can be created for as little as $50.  Do you really want to spend $6000 for a plasma TV when the company has spent just $50 to be in business?

Listing a Physical Address:
One aspect of the Internet that does (and should) frighten would-be buyers is the ability of companies to be anonymous.  If a company does not offer a physical mailing address, then the company is clearly attempting to hide something, for some reason.  A legitimate company will always be willing and forthright regarding their physical  address and telephone number.  If they are not, then it would be wise not spend your money with them.

Internet Retailers That Offer Multiple Web Sites:
There are a few companies selling plasma displays on the Internet that offer many web sites, with different names, different appearances and even different prices!  Its amazing that these online retailers attempt to confuse consumers by posing as different companies when the sales associates and people you speak with on the phone are the same for each web site.  Why do they offer more than one web site?  To confuse you, to sell you things you do not need and even to swindle you!!

If you call Plasma-Whoever.com and Plasma-Whatever.com and the SAME PERSON answers the phone, ask yourself who am I really talking to?

Lastly, when a company offers many web sites they are obviously paying high prices to have SO many web sites.  Who do you think is paying for all those sites?  Yes, the customer who is pay a lot more for their plasma display!

Impartial Buyer's Guides Actually Operated by Plasma Retailers:
There is a lot to learn about plasma displays, how they work and which models are better than others.  Using the Internet to research plasma displays is a great way to learn, compare and make an educated buying choice.  However, are the sites you use to research plasma information really just ploys to persuade you to buy from a particular retailer?

It seems very strange that certain buying guides only post advertisements for a few web sites.  Its even stranger when the same buying guide information appears on the retailer web sites.  Perhaps the strangest thing of all is that the buying guide web sites claim to be independent and impartial.

You should not pay more for a plasma display simply because an impartial buyer's guide blasts you with advertisements for web sites they operate!

Online Retailer's That Slander Other Retailers
Does it seem ethical for one company to say slanderous things about another company?  Does it seem that the company saying the slanderous things is resorting to that tactic to sell you a plasma TV?

Believe it or not, this occurs everyday in the highly competitive plasma display market.  If you call Plasma-Whatever.com and they say "I need to warn you about Plasma-Whoever.com...", it should be an indicator to you that the company saying the slanderous comments is not the best to do business with.  Most likely, the company they are slandering has better prices and service.

Obscure or Limited Payment Methods
If even the smallest online store can accept credit cards and other payment methods, it seems a full-fledge retailer of plasma displays should also be able to accept your credit card directly.  If a merchant specializing in plasma displays is unable to accept your credit card, or they require you (the customer) to take additional steps so they can process your order, then it should be a concern.

Some payment methods developed for online buying and selling are great low cost solutions for small merchants.  However, when it comes to spending several thousand dollars with a merchant, they should make the transaction as painless as can be.  If you have to sign up for some third-party service in order for them to accept your card, its a tip that the company may not be legitimate or around for very long.

Summary
Buying a plasma display on the Internet is a great way to save money and to get the monitor delivered right to your door.  However, there are things to watch out for.  Obviously, scams are the most important things to be aware of.  If the company has very low prices (lower than 1-800-PLASMAS! :) then it might be a scam.  If the company's web site looks like it was made in an hour, or it uses a generic storefront program, then it might be legitimate...but they have not put much effort in their business and they might not be around when you need them.

A good online company to do business with would not attempt to confuse you with many web sites.  If Plasma-High-Prices.com and Plasma-Even-Higher-Prices.com are operated by the same people, it seems they are doing something fishy.  When it comes to a high ticket item, avoid the fishy sites!

Furthermore, when one company says something bad about another company, its probably a case of jealousy and deceit.  If the company saying the slanderous comments needs to resort to that tactic, they are probably suffering financially and need to get sales any way they can.  Ironically, the company they are saying bad things about is probably the better company to do business with!

Lastly, if the company you decide to buy from requires you to sign-up for another service just so they can accept your credit card, it would be wise to shop elsewhere.  Merchant accounts, which allow companies to accept credit cards, are not easy to establish for high-ticket items and require a large financial investment by the company.  If an online store has not made that investment, it should be a concern.
