Digital Signage
The use of plasma displays for digital signage
has grown dramatically in the past few years. Many companies are seeing
the advantages of digital signage, which include flexibility, visual
impact and the maximization of floor space. At 1-800-PLASMAS, we have
assisted several companies to bring their visual business strategy to a
new level through digital signage via plasma technology.
In the beginning stages of any digital signage project, we recommend that
our customers consider all the factors involved with the project before
making any purchasing decisions. It is critical to plan the project,
research the displays and consult experts to ensure you have made the best
choice for the intended application. In too many instances, companies
purchase a display, or multiple displays, only to realize that they
misjudged the size, impact or versatility of the display(s) they
purchased. This can be avoided by consulting a vendor or installer ahead
of time regarding the project details.
Some important things to consider prior to moving forward with a digital
signage project are:
The Physical Environment
Examine the physical environment which the signage will be installed. Is
it secure? Will it impact enough customers to warrant the investment?
The Purpose of the Project
What is the goal of the signage to be installed: Customer acquisition?
To display information? To advertise products? To entertain? To gain more
floor space (by using wall or ceiling mounting gear)? Each project should
have an intended goal or purpose outlined from the beginning.
The Intended Design
Does a plasma display fit the style and design of the existing
environment? A bright, high-tech plasma display might not fit
appropriately in a low-tech office or a restaurant dining area with an
intimate atmosphere. On the other hand, a plasma display can drastically
change the mood and atmosphere of a setting to stir new business.
The Future
Evaluate potential changes or unexpected events. What if the office, shop,
or place of business changes in a few years? Can the installed displays be
easily transferred and re-installed? It is important to tie your digital
signage project to your plans for growth, expansion or unplanned events.
Once you have evaluated the purpose and scope of the digital signage
project, it is important to determine a budget for the project. Some
things to consider within the budget are:
-
Contractor/ Integrator costs
-
Display and mount costs
-
Hardware/software needed for the video
output
-
Speakers/sound system for the audio
output
-
Cables and other needs
-
Electrician costs (if needed)
-
Permits/site plans (if needed)
-
Changes to other areas of the
environment to complement the new display(s)
-
Possible "Downtime" as the display is
being installed
These are just some of the potential
factors that should be evaluated and budgeted for. In the long run,
planning and research are the best things any company or organization can
do before moving forward with a digital signage project of any scope.
